POLICY: REZAC ON RADIO WITH CHIEF JUDGE

Rezac asks Chief Judge Hugh Stansfield about lenient sentences in Vancouver & B.C.
Appearing on the Bill Good Show yesterday, Darcy Rezac challenged Chief Judge Hugh Stansfield to explain "why sentences for chronic offenders in Vancouver go from 101 days for the first offence and DROP to 25 days for the 40th offence." And, "why do serious chronic offenders get sentences so much more lenient than the rest of Canada?"

I'm glad to see Darcy bringing the context of reality to Stansfield's more clinical (academic) approach to the gang war crimes, chronic offenders, light sentences, etc. Reality is biting us badly on the crime front -- it's good to see Rezac ID-ing the real solutions.

Darcy,

Kudos for taking up this issue! The judiciary acts completely out of step with public opinion. The problem isn't so much BC being more lenient then Canada with sentencing than Canada as a whole being too lenient on certain types of crimes (especially chronic offenders).

I hope with you and the board behind this, we can get somewhere.
